Undergraduate Researchers

Callie Crawford

I am a senior from Queenstown, Maryland majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Neuroscience and concentrations in Biochemistry and Peace, Justice & Human Rights. I play on the Haverford women’s lacrosse team and am the Secretary for Haverford’s on-campus club, Women In Stem. In my free time, I like to do puzzles and take walks with my dogs.

Rebecca Koweek

I am a senior from Durham, North Carolina majoring in Chemistry with a Biochemistry concentration. I am a Chemistry TA, and currently run the Library Student Advisory Committee, as well as co-run the Intramural Tennis Team and student tech group, Haverford BLAST. I also have been involved with the orientation program for three years. In my spare time, I run with my dog and read books.

Meg Bowen

I am a junior from Charlottesville, Virginia double majoring in Biology and Music. Aside from academics, I play on the women’s soccer team, work as a Music Library Liaison, and play the violin in the Bi-College Orchestra and Chamber groups. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and learning new instruments.

Christina McBride

I am a junior from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with a Chemistry major, Biochemistry concentration, and Neuroscience minor. Aside from academics, I am involved in the customs program, the Mainliners A Cappella Group, the Bi-College Chorale, and Intramural Tennis at Haverford. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and playing board games!

Bayan Mostaghim

I am a junior from McLean, VA and am pursuing a Chemistry major with a Biochemistry concentration, along with a Religion minor. Outside of classes, I co-head the Haverford Street Outreach club, TA for various classes, and do outside volunteer work. In my free time, I enjoy reading (research articles, sci-fi, and fantasy!), playing the piano, arranging music, and listening to ’80s rock.


Jiawen Wang

I am a junior pursuing a Chemistry major with a Biochemistry concentration and a Japanese minor. I am from both Shanghai and Singapore. On campus, I am involved in the Chemistry Student Group, the Admissions Diversity Interns, the Chemistry Department Newsletter board, and am an illustrator for the Shoegaze magazine. In my free time, I enjoy watching shows and reading.

Cole Hannah

I am a sophomore intending to pursue a Biology major with a Biochemistry concentration. I am from Sicklerville, New Jersey, which is right outside of Philadelphia. In my free time, I play my guitar, bass, and piano, and play tennis with friends.

Kevin Li

I am a sophomore from Basking Ridge, New Jersey pursuing a major in Chemistry and a concentration in Biochemistry. Outside of academics, I am a member of Street Outreach and the Asian Students Association. In my free time, I love traveling outdoors, hanging out with friends, and playing the violin.


Shahla Mukhtar

I am a sophomore from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a prospective Chemistry major and Visual Studies or Health Studies minors. On campus, I am a member of the Track and Field team, a student representative of the Pre-Health Society, and of the Racism, Health, and Science Book Club. I enjoy painting and biking in my free time.

Trisha Phan

I am a sophomore from Cape Coral, Florida interested in Chemistry, Africana Studies, and Health Studies. On campus, I am a member of the Chemistry Student Group, Women’s Track, Co-Head of the Pre-Health Society, and recently started a book club centered on racism in STEM and healthcare (with Shahla!). In my free time, I enjoy exploring cities with friends and baking/cooking.

Postdoctoral Scholar

Yae In Cho

I am a Postdoctoral Scholar with a background in synthetic inorganic chemistry. I am originally from South Korea and received my PhD degree from UT Austin under the supervision of Prof. Michael Rose, where I worked on synthetic models of [Fe]-hydrogenase. I am very interested in working in multidisciplinary fields where experts from different backgrounds can freely share their ideas for a common goal. Outside the lab, I love cooking & baking, gardening, working on art projects, and exploring art museums.

Lou Charkoudian

I have the greatest job in the world! I get to work alongside this amazing team of researchers and teach courses related to chemistry and biochemistry. I’m passionate about the chemistry-biology interface, collaborations, undergraduate education, and equity and justice. Outside work, I enjoy building forts and having living room dance parties with my family, staying active outside, and connecting with friends.
